About Tutoring & Learning
1. How can tutoring benefit my child’s learning?
Tutoring gives your child personalised support that’s tailored to how they learn. It helps fill knowledge gaps, build confidence, strengthen study habits, and deepen understanding of school content. A good tutor can also help your child stay motivated, organised, and better prepared for assessments.
2. How do I know if my child would benefit from tutoring?
Signs your child may benefit include falling grades, frustration with homework, avoidance of certain subjects, or a loss of confidence. Even high-performing students benefit from extension work, exam preparation, and structured guidance. If you feel your child could use extra support — or an academic boost — tutoring can make a meaningful difference.
3. Is online or in-person tutoring better?
Both options are effective — it depends on your child’s learning style and your family’s schedule.
-
Online tutoring is flexible, convenient, and great for students who are comfortable with digital learning.
-
In-person tutoring is ideal for students who learn best with hands-on guidance or need help staying focused.
Many families choose based on logistics and personal preference. We offer both, so you can select what works best for your child.
Bookings, Fees & Policies
4, What are the fees for sessions?
You can see K-12 pricing on our Subjects & Pricing page. Discounts apply for multiple subjects/hours/siblings.
5. How does payment work? Do I have to commit to a contract?
Payments are made electronically. Payments are processed weekly in advance for the following week’s lesson. Unlike many tutoring companies, we don’t require long-term contracts. The only commitment is our 12-hour cancellation policy: if a session is cancelled or rescheduled with less than 12 hours’ notice, the session fee may still apply at the discretion of Lexis Tuition. This ensures our tutors can manage their time effectively and offer the best support to all students.
6. What days and times are sessions available?
We schedule sessions around your availability and the tutor’s schedule. Together, we find a time and location that is convenient and works best for your child, whether at your home, in a library, or online.
7. What is your cancellation policy?
It’s completely fine to cancel or reschedule with more than 12 hours’ notice. For cancellations or changes with less than 12 hours’ notice, the normal session fee may still apply at the discretion of Lexis Tuition. This helps our tutors maximise availability for all students.
If you or your child are unwell, you also have the option to move the session online if this is preferable, ensuring learning can continue safely.
8. Do you offer a trial session?
We don’t offer formal trial sessions, we are confident in our tutors and their ability. Instead, the first tutoring session acts as an initial assessment, where we get to know your child, understand their goals, and tailor a personalised learning plan. This ensures every session is meaningful and immediately productive.
Session Structure & Expectations
9. How long is each tutoring session?
Each session is one hour, unless otherwise arranged. This gives enough time for focused learning, personalised guidance, and skill development.
10. Are sessions one-on-one or group based?
Sessions are primarily one-on-one to ensure personalised support. Occasionally, small group sessions may be available for certain subjects, which can provide collaborative learning opportunities.
11. Do tutors give additional homework?
Yes — homework is tailored to the student's needs, focusing on upcoming assessments, areas for improvement, and skill-building to strengthen understanding.
12. What should my child bring to their tutoring sessions?
To get the most out of tutoring sessions, students will need:
Any materials they normally use at school for the subject,
-
A laptop with a free, personal Google account (for sharing work and accessing resources),
-
A dedicated tutoring exercise book for notes, practice, and reflection for each subject, and
-
Anything else advised by our Tutors before or during tutoring sessions.
For online sessions, students should additionally have:
-
A quiet, well-lit space with minimal distractions, and
-
A reliable internet connection and access to Google Meet.
13. How will I be updated on my child’s progress?
Every week, our tutors record what’s been covered in sessions and any homework set. Georgia will touch base once per term to review overall progress, and we are always happy to communicate more often if needed. Our goal is to ensure parents are fully informed and confident in their child’s learning journey.
14. How do you ensure your tutors are high-quality?
At Lexis Tuition, all tutors are carefully selected based on strong academic results and a genuine passion for teaching. Every tutor undergoes a thorough review, and is personally trained and mentored by our Principal Tutor, Georgia, who has 10+ years of experience in tutoring. Tutors are regularly assessed to ensure they deliver consistent, engaging, and effective tutoring.
15. What if my child isn’t connecting with their tutor?
In the very rare instance that this happens — that’s okay! We’ll review the situation together and, if needed, match your child with another tutor. Our priority is that every student feels comfortable, supported, and confident in their learning.
