About Tutoring & Learning
1. How can tutoring benefit my child’s learning?
Tutoring gives your child personalised support that’s tailored to how they learn. It helps fill knowledge gaps, build confidence, strengthen study habits, and deepen understanding of school content. A good tutor can also help your child stay motivated, organised, and better prepared for assessments.
2. How do I know if my child would benefit from tutoring?
Signs your child may benefit include falling grades, frustration with homework, avoidance of certain subjects, or a loss of confidence. Even high-performing students benefit from extension work, exam preparation, and structured guidance. If you feel your child could use extra support — or an academic boost — tutoring can make a meaningful difference.
3. Is online or in-person tutoring better?
Both options are effective — it depends on your child’s learning style and your family’s schedule.
-
Online tutoring is flexible, convenient, and great for students who are comfortable with digital learning.
-
In-person tutoring is ideal for students who learn best with hands-on guidance or need help staying focused.
Many families choose based on logistics and personal preference. We offer both, so you can select what works best for your child.
Bookings, Fees & Policies
4, What are the fees for sessions?
- Years 7-10 one-on-one sessions: $80 per hour
- Years 11-12 one-on-one sessions: $100 per hour
5. How does payment work? Do I have to commit to a contract?
Payments are made weekly in advance for the following week’s lesson. Unlike many tutoring companies, we don’t require long-term contracts. The only commitment is our 24-hour cancellation policy: if a session is cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice, the session fee applies. This ensures our tutors can manage their time effectively and offer the best support to all students.
6. What days and times are sessions available?
We schedule sessions around your availability and the tutor’s schedule. Together, we find a time and location that is convenient and works best for your child, whether at your home, in a library, or online.
7. What is your cancellation policy?
It’s completely fine to cancel or reschedule with more than 24 hours’ notice. For cancellations or changes with less than 24 hours’ notice, the normal session fee applies. This helps our tutors maximise availability for all students.
If you or your child are unwell, you also have the option to move the session online if this is preferable, ensuring learning can continue safely.
8. Do you offer a trial session?
We don’t offer formal trial sessions. Instead, the first tutoring session acts as an initial assessment, where we get to know your child, understand their goals, and tailor a personalised learning plan. This ensures every session is meaningful and immediately productive.
Session Structure & Expectations
9. How long is each tutoring session?
Each session is one hour, unless otherwise arranged. This gives enough time for focused learning, personalised guidance, and skill development.
10. Are sessions one-on-one or group based?
Sessions are primarily one-on-one to ensure personalised support. Occasionally, small group sessions may be available for certain subjects, which can provide collaborative learning opportunities.
11. Do tutors give additional homework?
Yes — homework is tailored to the student's needs, focusing on upcoming assessments, areas for improvement, and skill-building to strengthen understanding.
12. What should my child bring to their tutoring sessions?
Students should bring a laptop and any materials they normally use at school for the subject. A lined notebook and display folder may also be required — your tutor will advise what’s needed for each session.
13. How will I be updated on my child’s progress?
Every week, our tutors record what’s been covered in sessions and any homework set. We’ll touch base once per term to review overall progress, and we’re always happy to communicate more often if needed. Our goal is to ensure parents are fully informed and confident in their child’s learning journey.
14. How do you ensure your tutors are high-quality?
At Lexis Tuition, all tutors are carefully selected based on strong academic results and a genuine passion for teaching. Every tutor undergoes a thorough review, is personally trained and mentored by our Director with 10+ years of experience, and is regularly assessed to ensure they deliver consistent, engaging, and effective tutoring.
15. What if my child isn’t connecting with their tutor?
In the very rare instance that this happens — that’s okay! We’ll review the situation together and, if needed, match your child with another tutor. Our priority is that every student feels comfortable, supported, and confident in their learning.
